Research topics and methods
We investigate how putative processing limitations of the cognitive system influence the stream of processing operations when humans perform two or more actions simultaneously. Which processing operations are subjected to capacity limitations and how humans cope with these capacity limitations during task performance? What are the psychological mechanisms as well as the neural implementation of executive control in multi-tasking situations? We use research methods from experimental psychology, e.g. reaction times and errors, as well as methods from modern cognitive neuroscience, e.g. fMRI. In addition, we investigate patients with different neurological disorders.
