PALMA - Projekt zur Analyse der Leistungsentwicklung in Mathematik [Project for the analysis of performance developement in mathematics]
International Research on pupils performance in mathematics and natural sciences shows, that such performance is heavily variing, whereas german pupils show average performances. Because of their descriptive, longitudinal design, studies as TIMSS or PISA are not able to explain all causes of performance differences and shortcomings.The task of Palma is therefore, to analyse development and conditions of performances in the subject mathematics with a prospective-longitudinal design on a sample of german pupils. (5th-10th Grade).
Focus of Research
- Development of Performance and basic assumptions in mathematics
- Precondition of pupils causing performance and mathematical emotions of pupils
- Other Preconditions: teaching, class and parents.
In a follow-up study these longitudinal results will be used for research on possible intervention for the improvement of lessons in mathematics.
