Possible Thesis Topics
Bachelor or master thesis topics for psychology students (WiSe 23/24):
1) Study on the effects of the salience of students’ smartphones on learning
Potential research questions:
- Experimental variation of salience: Does the salience of students’ smartphones affect students’ learning ? e.g., via cognitive control and delayed gratification
- Influence of state vs. trait salience ?
- state salience: «alerts» plus physical presence of smartphone (experimentally manipulated)
- trait salience: prominence of smartphone in students’ everyday lives
2) Study with primary school students on learning by writing vs. cognitive load by writing
- Idea: Reduction of cognitive load by learning without Wirtin vs. learning by writing --- depending on individual prerequisites (e.g., sustained attentio)
- Dependent variable: memory performance
- For this project, good German language skills are required
3) Research Synthesis on different types of learning support (scaffolding)
à overview of different types of learning support that are distinguished in recent literature
